DELL CHILDREN’S MEDICAL CENTER of CENTRAL TEXAS
It is a great honor to be part of such an amazing collection of art inspired by and created for children. Sandra Gregor and Harmony Edwards Canfield and the Hospital Art Committee invited me to do a mural for the children’s playroom at the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. I created this large mural titled ‘Play the Day Away’ on clayboard with gouche and then it was digitally reproduced on canvas and installed with the Clipso system, a Swiss company. I was very pregnant with my first child and I think all the good hormones and visions of babies and happy children infused the work with color, light, and cheerful, uplifting scenes of critters frolicking. The original painting was hung in the NICU wing of the hospital. I was also asked to create a character that represented the LEED architectural program. This character would be on signage throughout the buidling(s) informing the visitors about the progressive energy saving features incorporated into the engineering of the hospital. They ended up using my concept of a caterpillar but choose to go with a more digitally designed character. If you visit the hospital it is worth taking a tour of the art collection. It is a very extensive and moving body of work and I am proud to be a part of it. Head down to Thyme Out Cafeteria, I did that sign too!
